House Concerts

Compelling, entertaining stories, told in a warm, welcoming environment. Warm, loving, intelligent nights of heart and conversation! Picture this: twenty or so (or more) grownups and even older kids sitting comfortably in your living room, some on sofas, some in armchairs, some on kitchen chairs, a few relaxing on cushions on the floor, all listening to stories. A dog or two snore nearby. Every now and then, somebody gets up quietly to graze at the table of gourmet goodies in the kitchen or to fill a glass. Maybe there's a break in the stories for snacks, or perhaps the performance runs for an hour with snacks or dessert following. After the listening, the guests casually share with each other memories and ideas prompted by the stories. As the guests start to leave, they linger to talk more about the evening and the connections that were made.

House concerts are not a new idea, they have been happening for hundreds of years….The intimate and evocative nature of storytelling lends itself well to the simple comfort of a house concert.

What are the expectations of the House Concert Host? Welcome at least 15-40+ friends and neighbors to your home and provide a warm and inviting atmosphere. Always invite three times more than what you wish as your minimum-sized audience. This concert venue is designed for teen and adult audiences and must be indicated on the invitations. The host can provide their own refreshments, or you can coordinate with Steve to plan them. If your House Concert is in the Greensboro, NC area, Steve often enlists Kerrie Thomas to provide the gourmet goodies. Kerrie is Head Chef for DINNER AT THE DAIRY (Goat Lady Dairy's famous on-farm dining event) and THE NEXT SUPPER Underground Dining Collective. The concert will last 60 minutes while the refreshments and mingling occur the following 30 minutes or so.
